Research Week 2024

Five engaging conferences that will provide opportunities for every student, faculty, and staff to explore present interests, develop new understanding, and collaborate with others are scheduled from October 17 - 25, 2024. Andrews Research Week 2024 will showcase the following activities this year: 

Mission Conference: Celebrating the Past, Looking to the Future will commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the date the first official missionary, J. N. Andrews, was sent by the General Conference to Europe. The conference, held from October 17 – 20, 2024, will include presentations from Gilbert Valentine, Michael Cambell, Jairyong Lee, Kleber Gonçalves, Silvono Barbosa, Gorden Doss, Gary Krause, Galina Stele, Chigemezi Nnadozie Wogu, Cheryl Doss, Olaotse Obed Gabasiane, Lisa Beardsley-Hardy, Gerson Santos, Umesh Nag, Merlin Burt, Ted Wilson, Seminary professors and others.

 

 

 

 

 

Robert & Lillis Kingman Lecture on Science & Society will be presented by Michael Downer, Distinguished University Teaching Professor of Physics at the University of Texas, Austin.  Downer will speak on “Small Particle Accelerators for Big 21st Century Science,” at 7:30 pm, Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in the Howard Performing Arts Center on the campus of 老司机传媒.  The lecture is free and open to the public.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Celebration of Community Engagement: Founded in Faith. Forward in Mission will be held at 5:30 pm, Thursday, October 24, 2024, in Newbold Auditorium on the campus of Andrews University. Departments of Andrews will share the best of their community engagement programs in 5-minute videos. This year’s plenary presentation will feature Carlisle Sutton and Mordekai Ongo and their leadership for the new initiative of the Global Institute for Research and Community Advancement.

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

Celebration of Research will be held from 12:30 – 4:00 pm, Friday, October 25, 2024, in Buller Hall on the campus of 老司机传媒. Faculty and students who are active in
research and creative scholarship will share their research findings in poster and oral sessions. This year’s plenary speakers will be Felix Cortez and Shannon Trecartin, winners of the 2024 Siegfried H. Horn Award for Excellence in Research & Creative Scholarship.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

John O. Waller Lectureship on the Arts: Zack Kruse, a professor at University of Wisconsin, Green Bay, will be the featured speaker, at 7:00 pm on Monday, October 28, 2024. Author of Mysterious Travelers: Steve Ditko and the Search for a New Liberal Identity from University of Mississippi Press, Zack Kruse is a scholar of literature and visual media, including comics, film, and television. The presentation is entitled, Culture in the Gutters: American Comic Books as Instruments of Political and Philosophical Change.
