Determination of Factors Associated with High Rates of Divorce Among sub-Sahara African Immigrants in the United States
The purpose of this research proposal is to determine factors associated with the high rates of divorce among Sub-Saharan African immigrants in the United States (US). The study will focus on immigrants from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Kenya listed in the US census as the dominant black Africans in the US. California, Texas, Massachusetts, Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia are chosen as research sites since they are the States with the highest concentration of African immigrants. This quantitative research will adopt a cross-sectional research design and use the eight constructs of Berry’s (1997) acculturation framework to develop the instrument. The eight constructs include; the country of origin, the country settled, group acculturation, moderating factors before acculturation, moderating factors during acculturation, stressors, stresses, and adaptation.
