VeggieTales Cast: Hot Takes From the Fridge

Interviewed by Savannah Tyler

Walking onto the set of VeggieTales with the pink and yellow tiled kitchen counters and seeing the setting for a show that has been loved by families for over 30 years was quite an emotional experience. This was my dream interview and I was finally able to secure it when some of the cast, who are fans of the Student Movement, reached out to my editor. I had the privilege of talking with many of the characters and getting a sneak peek at an upcoming episode! The interviews will be released in a series, working from topic to topic. The first topic I decided to discuss was what they all thought of the Student Movement and if they had advice for us…which they certainly did.

Bob the Tomato

“Occasionally I will read the Student Movement when I have time, which is not because of anything other than I am super busy and I have so many things on my plate (no pun intended). I have to keep up with all of the emails the kids send us and then I have to make sure we can apply a Bible story to it and then figure out how we’re going to portray it. Then I have to write a script and direct the retelling as well as memorize my lines and make sure Madame Blueberry does the costuming for each character. Sometimes the French Peas can be overwhelmingly mischievous on set which makes rehearsal time longer and causes Pa Grape to complain about turning into a raisin. Oh my! The list just continues onward forever and also Larry is constantly distracting me with his continuous singing and tuba playing! Never a quiet moment in this kitchen that is for sure…what was your question again? Oh my! Look at the time! I must get going! I have emails to respond to! I am so sorry! Just remember that God made you special—!”

Larry the Cucumber

“...And He loves you very much! I always have fun reading the Student Movement! My favorite parts to read are the Arts and Entertainment section because I love to keep a pulse on what’s new and interesting and I love the Humans section because I enjoy hearing from people all over campus! I would love to be featured in an article sometime because you know I have written a couple of original songs myself! This way not only can I share my talents but maybe I could find a new friend to collaborate with on some new silly songs!”

Junior Asparagus

“Oh boy! I sure do love the Student Movement! My parents read it to me each week, especially the Ideas section because those articles are such a blast! I mean if it’s not too much work, I need more articles about space because that’s what I love to learn about most!”

Archibald Asparagus

“I personally look forward to each Friday so I can read all of the wonderful new articles that have been written! You know I was the Ideas section editor myself once, such good times! However, I would like to hear more from local musicians on campus especially about their experiences in songwriting so I can learn from their ventures. Overall the Student Movement is an Andrews treasure and I hope it continues forever! Ta-tah!”

Madame Blueberry

“The Student Movement has a special place in my heart because I love knowing about the happenings on campus and keeping up with any hot topics or gossip. I would absolutely adore a gossip column in the Student Movement because I know that would thrill my soul weekly. However, I don’t have as much time to read the articles as I would like due to being the mayor of Bumblyburg as it is such a busy and important job you know!”

Pa Grape

“The Student Movement eh? Well, I don’t know how to navigate my technology to read the articles and QWERTY is no help at all. Plus I don’t like spending time on my computer when there are so many other things to experience. Back in my day, we used to get the newspaper and the Student Movement printed and I need that to be brought back immediately! Nothing quite like a printed newspaper and a warm glass of milk before bedtime.”

Larry-Boy

“There is little time for me to read the Student Movement because I need to keep the town of Bumblyburg safe from weeds and apples and fibs and… However I have Alfred keep up with the news around campus especially any that involve interviews so I can keep an ear or a plunger to the ground on any bad apples that could be roaming the streets of 老司机传媒 but luckily I have had minimal cases around those parts. My main concern is protecting the citizens of Bumblyburg but I would love a section in the paper called “Letters to Larry-Boy” in case anyone requires my help!”

Petunia Rhubarb

“I am the Student Movement's biggest fan! I love being able to read the articles especially because I am a reporter myself! Plus I think reading the articles not only reflects the psychology of the writer but the quotes also give a glimpse into each individual which I absolutely adore. I am always looking forward to reading the new articles and figuring out the theme for each week. I know how much work it takes to put out a weekly paper and I am so extremely proud of everyone involved in the Student Movement! Personally, my favorite part is the Last Word section because I love hearing specifically from the editors themselves and getting to hear what they have to say.”

Mr. Lunt

“I am far too busy to sit down to read. It’s not easy being the gourd I am with so many different responsibilities! Working is no joke, especially for good old Mr. Nezzer! Plus I have songs to write, cheeseburgers to sing about, pirate ships to sail, and a Boyz in Da Sink tour coming up. Who am I kidding, while I sing about being a pirate that doesn’t do anything it’s more like I’m the gourd who does everything! I could be persuaded to read the Student Movement if they wrote tips on how to swindle people better and the best ways to maintain a quality mustache.”
