What is the best piece of advice you have gotten, who said it to you, and why is it so memorable?

"My mother telling me that when I’m feel down and out it’s because I’m thinking too much about myself and my own problems and that the cure was to take the attention off myself and do something for someone else."

What accomplishment are you most proud of in your life?

" I have so many things to be proud of in life because God has truly blessed me with so many things: talents, an amazing family, wonderful friends, the list goes on. But more recently I’m proud to have taught myself how to sew. From there I started my own online business selling my handmade goods. For me, there is no greater feeling of pride and accomplishment than being able to create something with your own two hands."

What made you decide to become a counseling psychologist?

"There are many things that made me decide to become a counseling psychologist. Among them is one that sticks out in my head the most and it’s not something epic and profound or drenched in bells and whistles. It’s simple: people like to talk to me. No matter where I go, I find myself to be a magnet that attracts people. I had an ongoing joke with my friends and family that I must have a sign on my forehead that says, “TALK TO ME” – because people are always talking to me, and I of course, lend them my ear. I’d like to think I chose this profession, but most days I am reminded that this profession chose me."

What is a personal motto you live by, what does it mean to you, and how do you apply it to your life?

"The Road To Success Is Paved With Failure. My life hasn’t always gone the way I’ve planned and I’ve experienced failures big and small, and that’s OK. Failure is OK. If you keep going, it paves the way to success."

"Every morning I review and make sure everything is in place. Maybe go to a committee meeting and meet with students. Students often come in and want to talk about different issues that they want to discuss or get advice about. I prep for lecturing and work on research."

You are also a police officer.  What part of that job interests you the most?

"Being in a non-homogeneous environment where you can diversify and reach out to different people. The Missionary work, reaching people in the community - we can be Christ to people without putting on a formal  evangelical meeting."
