AU students who live 100 miles or more from AU and have a currently validated Andrews ID card and an Andrews username and password are eligible for this service.
Off-campus students with U.S. or Canadian addresses may borrow circulating books, i.e. status says “ Available,” and journal articles held by JWL. All materials requested through ILL must be used in accordance with U.S. Copyright Laws. Please note that irrespective of your location you may request articles and book chapters not held at the JWL through interlibrary loan services.
Books are delivered via UPS which usually take about 3-4 days to the address on file. Journal articles are delivered electronically to your Andrews email account.
The library pays for return shipping but you must request the library to send you a prepaid return label vial email a week before the due date (on the book strap). Otherwise, the patrons pay for the return shipping and insure each book for $100. Alternative, materials may be returned in person.
Books are loaned for four months with one renewal. Date due is when the book must be back in the library. Allow sufficient time for travel.
Books are subject to recall after three weeks. When a book is recalled, the new due date is three days after the recall invalidating the date on the book strap. Overdue fees will then apply to the new due date.
You may make a request for 50 items per week and 20 journal articles within the same period. Processing is based on first come, first served.
If a request is no longer needed, immediately send a cancellation notice to ill@andrews.edu with the complete citation of the item being cancelled.
Overdue fines are $.50/day/item. There is a $25 fine for recalled books that are received or postmarked after the recall due date. The library will charge $120 replacement fee for a lost item, or an item that is one month overdue. All fines and fees will be billed through the Student Accounts office.
Where document delivery to our distance education students requires making copies of books and or articles, application of Section 108 of copyright regulations shall apply and the following copyright regulations shall apply:
Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyright material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction not be "used for any purposes other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that use may be liable for copyright infringement.
