An Overview of Trump’s Second Cabinet

The presidential Cabinet consists of at least 16 positions: a vice president and 15 other heads of executive departments. President Donald J. Trump has chosen the majority of the figures he wants to serve in Currently, many of his picks are awaiting Senate confirmation. The nominations are listed below. 

Vice President:

JD Vance is a former U.S. senator, lawyer and venture capitalist. His political positions include stricter border policies, maintaining abortion regulations at the state level and political isolationism.

Secretary of State:

Marco Rubio is a former U.S. senator and served as the 94th Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. His political positions include minimizing trade with China, restricting abortion access, expanding social services for families and increasing funding to the Department of Defense. On Jan. 21, he was sworn in as Secretary of State. 

Secretary of the Treasury:

Scott Bessent is a former investor and hedge fund manager. He is a proponent of restricting trade with China and Russia and maintaining Trump’s 2017 tax cuts. He has remained neutral on concerns regarding Trump’s proposed tariffs. 

Secretary of Defense:

Pete Hegseth is a former officer in the Army National Guard and a television personality. His political positions include increasing American support for Israel, decreasing American support for Ukraine and limiting the involvement of women and LGBTQ+ individuals in the armed forces. Hegseth has been accused of sexual assault, including and . 

Attorney General:

Pam Bondi is a lawyer, former attorney general of Florida and a member of President Trump’s legal team. She has spent much of the five years in between her time as Florida’s attorney general and her current nomination as a lobbyist for Ballard Partners; notable clients include Amazon, Uber and the MLB. 

Secretary of the Interior:

Doug Burgum is a businessman and former governor of North Dakota. He is the founder of Kilbourne Group, a real-estate development firm, and Arthur Ventures, a software venture capital group.He has expressed an interest in opening up lands for massive drilling operations and expansion of fossil fuel and natural gas industries in the U.S. while simultaneously committing North Dakota to be carbon neutral by 2030. 

Secretary of Agriculture:

Brook Rollins was the acting director for the United States Domestic Policy Council during President Trump’s first term. Afterward, she became the president and CEO of the American First Policy Institute 

Secretary of Commerce:

Howard Lutnick is the chairman and CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Group, a financial services company. He has expressed support for broad tariffs and tax cuts, and accused China of being responsible for the American fentanyl crisis.

Secretary of Labor:

Lori Chávez-DeRemer is a former U.S. representative and former mayor of Happy Valley, Oregon. She was one of three congressional Republicans to support the Protecting the Right to Organize Act. 

Secretary of Health and Human Services:

Robert Kennedy Jr. is a lawyer and . He is a proponent of increasing regulations of processed foods within the public school system, but he has been widely criticized for his claims that vaccines and fluoridated water are dangerous. 

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development:

Scott Turner is a former NFL player and businessman who served as executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during Trump’s first presidency. He and his wife own Statesman Clothiers, a custom men’s clothing company. He has been criticized for his inexperience in relevant fields. During his confirmation hearing on Thursday, Jan. 16, he stated an interest in the homelessness crisis but did not provide specific policy plans.

Secretary of Transportation:

Sean Duffy is a U.S. representative and television personality. Similarly to outgoing Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, he has limited direct experience in transportation. He has expressed a commitment to support for the Appalachian region of Tennessee and North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. 

Secretary of Energy:

Chris Wright is the CEO of Liberty Energy, North America’s second-largest fracking company. He is a strong supporter of oil and fossil fuel development. 

Secretary of Education:

Linda McMahon is the founder and former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, and the 25th administrator of the Small Business Administration during Donald Trump’s first presidency. She has been criticized for having limited experience in education, and has expressed support for President Trump’s proposal to limit government funding for public schools. 

Secretary of Veterans Affairs:

Doug Collins is a Baptist minister, lawyer, and Air Force veteran. 

Secretary of Homeland Security:

Kristi Noem is the governor of South Dakota. Her political positions include increased border security and Secret Service reform.
