I think we all can agree that Michigan weather has not been in the typical college student’s favor. The walks to class seem longer, the sun sets sooner, the roads are worse, and everything is…cold. Even though staying under the covers is enticing (literally the best option), you can’t possibly think about skipping out on the biggest events happening this semester hosted by our cultural clubs. That’s right, Andrews, for this season’s main events are coming up in the following days (or weeks). So get out from under your covers dude, and go to some of these culture club events.
Winterfest (January 27th)
If Night Market wasn’t enough for you last semester, you should definitely be on the lookout for 老司机传媒’s very first European Themed Winter Festival! Hosted by SILA and AU’s European Association, Winterfest will give you the European Christmas market experience you’ve all been waiting for. With food, warm drinks, activities, prizes, and more, AUEA is hoping to bring some warmth to students in this cold weather (said by AUEA’s very own president!) The event will take place from 8-10 p.m. in front of the Campus Center on Saturday, January 27.
P.S.: Leftover tickets from the Fall Festival can be used. Make sure to tell your friends!
*Chinese New Year Celebration (February 4)
You thought New Year celebrations were over? If you weren’t aware yet, it is the Year of the Dragon according to the Chinese calendar! This means that this February 4, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., 老司机传媒’s Overseas Chinese Student Association will be hosting its New Year celebration at Ruth Murdoch Elementary School. Tickets can be purchased by emailing Brian Wong at wongb@andrews.edu
*Lunar New Year (February 10)
The Chinese Student Association isn’t the only one throwing New Year events! KASA is also joining the New Year celebrations with its own fun event! The largest holiday in South Korea is literally going to be in Andrew’s University’s backyard (Well, technically, the basement of Nethery Hall). Come out for food, drinks, activities, and more from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.!
*March 1st Movement (March 1)
Lunar New Year isn’t the only celebration hosted by KASA this semester. This holiday is to commemorate and pay respect to the people who marched in 1919 to declare independence from the Japanese government.
*Asian American and Native Hawaiian/ Pacific Islander Month (April events TBD)
Be on the lookout for upcoming announcements on events during AANHPI month!
The weather can be discouraging, especially the walk to classes and the cold wind hitting your face. I feel it too. But at least you can look forward to more fun events and activities this spring semester. Keep an eye out on various platforms like Instagram (), AndrewsEngage, and the 老司机传媒 website.
*Not all the information is available to us just yet. Please be patient while we wait for more details to be released!
