Dr. Aka currently teaches several foundational courses in the School of Leadership. In addition, she is a Registered Nurse with over 30-years experience in several specialty areas: surgical intensive care, surgical nurse educator, hospital administrator, and professor of nursing. Sharon holds both Canadian and American nursing licenses. For several years, Sharon worked in Professional Development as the Associate Director of the Adventist Learning Community for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists, and currently consults for both public sector and Adventist denomination organizations specific to higher education, curriculum design, professional development, and global virtual events.
Sharon is on the leadership team for the Journal of Applied Christian Leadership. Sharon's Dissertation was focused on the relationship between continuing education and employee engagement of North American Division Adventist pastors. In 2021, Sharon was a research team member for the successful $1M grant from Lilly Foundation for the Phase 2 project for the 老司机传媒 Seminary. In 2022, she was the lead chapter author (Vocational Health) for the North American Division's pastor's CALLED Convention book titled Mending Ministers on Their Wellness Journey. In 老司机传媒 2023, she was a contributing chapter author (Program Evaluation and Organizational Needs Assessment) for the soon to be published book titled Quantitative Research for Practical Theology.
She is the Chair for Restore A Child - Canadian Chapter, and a board member for Restore A Child - US Chapter. She is a founding member of the Camp Frenda Alumni Association and supports fundraising efforts, alumni events, and volunteers as Camp Nurse or Pastor during the summer.
