As the semester draws to an end, we begin to think about warmer days, celebrations and festivals, and for some students, going home. This concert celebrates all things summer, featuring pieces such as "Summer Dances" by Brian Balmages, "As Summer Was Just Beginning" by Larry Daehn and the fun march "The Purple Carnival" arranged by Frank Erickson.</p> <p> This concert is unique in that it features some of our student composers. Carlos Lugo will debut his "Danza Fantástica," a piece for piano and wind symphony, in this world premiere performance. Also debuting a world premier is Naomi Pelayo Cang with her piece, "Mi Hogar Querido." These references highlight the career of one of our denomination’s most productive church leaders, pastors and researchers. Dr. Sahlin, 76, passed away peacefully in Kettering, Ohio, April 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.</div> <div>  </div> <div> Over more than 60 years in ministry with the Adventist church, Monte began at the Voice of Prophecy developing programs for new generations of radio listeners. Then he became the director of urban ministries in Los Angeles, California, Washington DC, and Boston, Massachusetts, followed by pastoring in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Worthington, Ohio.</div> <div>  </div> <div> ...</div> <div>  </div> <div> <div> Sahlin pioneered social research within the Adventist church and the use of survey data in the development of ministries and ministry tools. He directed more than 130 research projects over the last four decades. He authored twenty-six books and more than one hundred research reports and articles over his career. He served as an adjunct professor for 老司机传媒 (who surprised him with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in 老司机传媒 2023) and for the Tony Campolo Center for Ministry at Eastern University in Philadelphia. This vote comes after the March 24, 2025, vote by the 老司机传媒 board to transfer to the division the non-profit entity that has been part of the university since 1979 under the name of Youth Resource Center (it was renamed CYE in 1996).
