STUDENT TICKETS for students in elementary school through college/university are now $10.  Get your ticket to come and listen to The King's Singers.   England’s premier choral ensemble has long had an unsurpassed tradition of vocal music with roots in both religious and secular singing.  Setting the gold standard in acapella singing on the world’s greatest stages for over 50 years, the King’s Singers are renowned for their unrivaled technique, musicianship and versatility, which stem from both the group’s rich heritage and its drive to bring an extraordinary range of new and unique works, collaborations and recordings to life. They consistently delight audiences around the world with their incomparable musicianship, wit and charm. There will also be a vocal masterclass by The King's Singers at 4:00-5:00 pm on Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Howard Performing Arts Center concert hall.  The masterclass is open to the public and is FREE of charge.  Later do come back for the concert at 7:00 pm.  Tickets for the concert are available at our website or by calling us at 269-471-3560.  See you there.   Tue, 04 Feb 2025 11:43:42 +0000 A Call to Care Well http://www.andrews.edu/agenda/66888 Greetings, students, We’ve been journeying with students experiencing questions, concerns and stress related to several executive actions relating to immigration status (at the end of this letter, there are resources) that may impact their families and communities. You may be one of the students experiencing this kind of stress. If this is you, please know that we’ve been praying and claiming God’s promise, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). If you are a student feeling overwhelmed for any reason, please know that the chaplains are available and have a legal obligation to exercise privileged confidentiality, which means they can’t share anything you share in confidence with anyone. As the president noted in an email earlier this week, ��˾��ý is a global campus. This is the one place on this planet that gives you the most complete picture of what it means to be part of a church as inclusive as the Seventh-day Adventist Church with over 20 million members. God assures us that until he returns, the Holy Spirit is with us to comfort and guide us, and in fact, God also calls us to be vessels of care for others, in and outside of the Adventist family: Romans 12:13: “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” Galatians 6:2: “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Philippians 2:3-4: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility, consider others more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests but rather to the interests of others." As you encounter friends or strangers, prayerfully ask God to show you how your interaction can encourage and comfort them. You may be wondering what is expected of us, specifically as a student of ��˾��ý. And what can you expect from ��˾��ý with the various changes being announced? These are reasonable questions to have. I understand that the University administration is working on ��˾��ý guidelines and protocols on what to do if a federal agent approaches you or an employee. Additionally, review current expectations for student conduct in the handbook <a href="https://bulletin.andrews.edu/content.php?catoid=11&navoid=1303" target="_blank">here</a>. Here are a few resources: <ol> <li> You can anonymously share your questions and concerns about the potential impact of the executive orders on the immigration and deportation process to your University experience or any other issue impacting your University experience <a href="/feedback/concern/" target="_blank">here</a>. The University administration may not know what is important for you to know, so let them know.</li> <li> According to the <a href="http://bulletin.andrews.edu/content.php?catoid=22&navoid=5184&hl=privacy&returnto=search">Student Handbook</a>, you can request to refuse to permit the dissemination of your directory information, and that link shares how.</li> <li> If you have questions related to your VISA status, please visit the International Student Services office or email them at <a href="mailto:iss@andrews.edu">iss@andrews.edu</a>. Here’s a message they recently shared: <a href="/agenda/66881/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=agenda-2025-01-30" target="_blank">international student visas</a>.</li> <li> Contact the chaplains or the Counseling & Testing Center if you feel overwhelmed and stressed; they are legally obligated to keep it confidential.</li> <li> If you want to learn skills about how to navigate life, especially when working through trauma, there’s a practical workshop happening soon, titled “Thriving Through Trauma.” More information can be found <a href="/agenda/66842/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=agenda-2025-01-30" target="_blank">here</a>.</li> <li> Remember, you have various student associations and student clubs that you can ask to help communicate questions and concerns to the University administration.</li> <li> Get informed: several credible resources exist about what to do if an Immigration and Customs Officer approaches you online.</li> </ol> I know this doesn’t answer all of your questions, and I’m sure you have questions we may not even know. So please submit your questions and concerns in the form I shared above so the University can help respond to them. Jesus told us that we will face many troubles in this world. And in the same breath, He said to fear not because He has overcome the world. Until the day he comes again in the clouds, let’s make sure that the fellowship of Christ’s followers embodies the heart of God in all we do. We wanted to send a message of support and clarification amidst the news of arrests, detainment and deportation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). We assure you that if you are studying at ��˾��ý with a student visa, your valid F-1 or J-1 status allows you to be present in the United States legally, and the current enforcement actions do not target individuals who maintain their visa status. As always, but especially now, it is important to make sure that your student visa is in good status, particularly in the following areas: <ul> <li> Full-time status: You must be a full-time student each fall and spring semester (and your first summer if you start your studies on campus in the summer). Full-time status means registering for at least 12 credits per semester for undergraduate students, at least 8 credits per semester for graduate students and at least 9 credits per semester for MDiv students (alternatively, graduate students can meet the requirement by registering for any course number described in the current University bulletin as meeting full-time status). <ul> <li> Note to graduate students at the thesis or dissertation stage: Upon completing coursework, you must continue to meet full-time status through a thesis or dissertation continuation section that counts as full-time status in the University bulletin.</li> </ul> </li> <li> Employment: You can work on campus for up to 20 hours per week (and more during school breaks), but you need prior authorization from the International Student Services office before working off campus in Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or Optional Practical Training (OPT).</li> <li> Deadlines: You must keep track of your I-20 end date (for F-1 visa holders) and contact International Student Services at least 30 days before this date if you wish to extend; upon completion of your program of study, you will have 60 days to apply for OPT, be accepted into a new program of study, or transfer to another institution. If you have a J-1 visa, your DS-2019 has similar deadlines that vary depending on your program category; always check in with International Student Services at least 30 days before the end date on your DS-2019.</li> <li> International Travel: Plan carefully if you want to leave the United States before completing your program of study. You must ensure that your F-1 or J-1 visa will still be valid when you return to the United States, and you must have a current travel endorsement on your I-20 (for F-1 visa holders) or DS-2019 (for J-1 visa holders). We strongly advise any international students planning international travel to stop by the International Student Services office before departure.</li> </ul> Once again, we want to assure you that your student visa grants you legal status to be in the United States while you study, keeping you out of the scope of the current enforcement efforts.
