Death of Seth Williams

Campus Announcements | Posted on November 20, 2022

Dear Andrews friends,

It’s with great sadness that I share some tragic news we learned over the weekend regarding the death of one of our recent graduates, Seth Williams, on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022.

Seth, who was one of our J.N. Andrews Honors Program students, completed his biology/biomedical degree last May. He had returned to his home in Texas this summer in order to be close to his family following the death of his mother in August of 2021 and as he prepared to ultimately pursue his dentistry studies.

While at Andrews, Seth was a well-known, beloved and engaged member of our campus community. We deeply mourn his untimely death.

José Bourget, our University Chaplain, and Judith Fisher, assistant vice president for Student Development and director of our Counseling & Testing Center, invite members of our campus community to gather together in the Buller Hall Randall Student Center (Room 106) this Monday, Nov. 21, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., with focused sharing beginning at 5:30 p.m.

This informal, come-and-go gathering will be a time to mourn Seth’s passing and to remember and celebrate his life and his impact on the lives of so many in our Andrews community.

Care is being provided for Seth’s classmates and friends, both in Seth’s academic programs as well as in the campus groups in which he was active. Individuals seeking confidentiality and support may also reach out to our campus counselors at the Counseling & Testing Center here and our chaplains at our Center for 老司机传媒 here.

Even if you’re unable to join us at the Monday evening gathering, please consider sharing your memories and prayers for Seth’s family and friends below; please include your name with your comments.

In this time of immense loss, our heartbreak and prayers extend to Seth’s family and loved ones, including those who were extraordinarily blessed by Seth and his life while he studied, lived and worshiped in the 老司机传媒 community.

With care,

Frances Faehner
Vice President for Campus & Student Life

I greatly enjoyed being apart of honors with Seth芒聙娄I vividly remember taking Lit in the arts with him. He is such a bright light and full of intelligence and cannot wait to see him again someday soon.

I don芒聙聶t know Seth. I芒聙聶m a graduate of AU, way back in the 90芒聙聶s. I芒聙聶m not sure why this feels so devastating to me. Maybe I do. He芒聙聶s the same age as my twin daughters who also recently graduated. With so much life ahead!! So many opportunities to serve God! So many lives to touch! And knowing that his family has recently experienced the death of his mother is almost to much to bear. Gods plan is holy and good. We must all hold on to that blessed hope! I pray for Gods strength and mercy and peace for all of his family, friends and loved ones. Michelle Schaefer

I don't think I ever met Seth, but I am devastated by the news of his death. Another young person has gone too soon. May he rest in peace until Jesus returns. May that day be soon!

Seth was always kind and it芒聙聶s hard to believe that he is no longer with us. He was a good friend and I never saw any of this coming. Please stay strong and when you notice that something might be wrong, please tell someone.

Seth lived with us for part of his Junior year at AU. He became part of our family and we are absolutely heart broken and in utter shock. Such a sweet and gentle person! We would have lengthy discussions on solving the worlds problems or hot topics in the news. He was a good friend to my son and always respectful, caring and loving to others. He was an avid calorie and carb counter, but that all went out the window when I made Veggie sweet and sour burger loaf. His favorite. I will miss his random texts and his funny banter. I芒聙聶m so thankful that he came and spent part of his spring break with us this year. I wish I would have given him a longer tighter hug. He loved his family and was always concerned for and looking out for his beloved Grandparents. He leaves behind a huge void and will be so very missed! His family is in our prayers. Barbie Councell

I remember Seth as a very diligent, respectful, and hard working students. Always present in class, always scoring high in his exams yet very humble and discreet. It is with great sadness that I received the news of his premature passing. My prayers go out on behalf of his remaining family. Erhard

I would always see Seth across the campus and he was just one of the smartest person in our department. I didn芒聙聶t talk a lot with him, but talking with him during the Honors change day event remains to this day a very happy one. This is so shocking and I can芒聙聶t stop asking 芒聙聹But why?芒聙聺 He had so much ahead of him..

Seth was one of the kindest, must humble people I've ever met. It was a joy to be around him and to see how he always gave so much of his time to help others. The world is dimmer without him. But I know I will see him again. Hugs. Until later dear one. Shannon Trecartin
