James White Library Building Reopens!
The James White Library building will reopen on Aug. 17, 2020, after being closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All onsite services are now available. As we reopen, the safety and wellbeing of all our patrons and employees is paramount. Therefore, we have established additional safety protocols to minimize the risk of infection for both you and our employees.
Protection Measures
- Installed plexiglass barriers at the circulation desk and other service desks
- Reconfigured library spaces to observe social/physical distancing: six feet between chairs; seating at every other carrel
- Require patrons to sanitize their hands upon entering the building
- Require patrons to clean computers, monitors, mice, and study spaces after each use
- Patrons may resume browsing shelves but must practice social distancing and follow floor direction marks
- Floor markers are used to indicate six feet distances at the circulation and other waiting areas
- Patron traffic will be monitored to ensure compliance with CDC occupant load recommendations
- Elevator use is restricted to patrons with disabilities: one occupant at a time; the occupant must wear a mask
- Bathrooms: reduced occupancy and, preferably, one person at a time
- Patrons are expected to adhere to all COVID-19 safety protocols and posted signage
- A greeter at the library entrance will remind and encourage compliance with library protocols
Policy Adjustments
- Loan periods remain extended; number of renewals increased, and all fines waived
- Group Study Rooms—for individual use only
- No shared study carrels—only one occupant at a time
- The Information Services desk and Circulation desk have been combined into a single service point
