Position summary
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS), the Chair has responsibility for the overall operations in the School of Population Health, Nutrition and Wellness (PHNW), which includes undergraduate and graduate programs. The Chair guides the accreditation process of the programs, development and maintenance of the evaluation plan, curriculum review, organization of division projects, faculty development, and the self-study report.
Qualifications summary
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD/ DrPH in Public Health/ Nutrition or a doctorate degree in a health-related field, leadership, or education with a master’s degree in public health or nutrition sciences.
- Associate Professor.
- Five years of experience in Public Health or Nutrition.
- Five years of college teaching experience.
- Demonstrated scholarly activities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with accreditation of Public Health/Nutrition.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
Policy Developer and Supervisor
- Interprets school and university administrative policy, considering the needs of the education programs in the School of PHNW.
- Establishes the School of PHNW’s policy in consultation with program directors and faculty.
- Supervises the admissions process and administers student admissions policies.
- Supervise the development and revisions of the School of PHNW’s student handbooks.
- Produces the School of PHNW’s bulletin copy.
Performance Evaluation & Advocate
- Acts as faculty advocate to higher administration.
- Evaluates the performance of core faculty and staff to aid in determining raises and to establish personal goals for their professional development in teaching, scholarly and service activities, tenure and promotion.
- Generates timely reports relating to credentials, tenure and advancement in rank.
- Evaluates the performance of adjunct and supporting faculty.
Financial Manager
- Assures adequate financial resources for the security and sound operation of viable School of PHNW’s education programs for ÀÏ˾»ú´«Ã½.
- Establishes the School of PHNW’s budget in consultation with the program directors and faculty.
- Approves travel and expense reports.
- Monitors PHNW’s budget.
Academics & Accreditation
- Schedules courses and assigns faculty teaching loads.
- Annual teaching load as agreed upon with the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services.
- Schedules classes, labs and other program functions.
- Monitors and adjusts academic standards and curriculum content.
- Monitors accreditation issues and assigns appropriate responsibilities to assure compliance.
- Monitors accreditation standards for the programs.
- Function as the liaison with accrediting agencies, clinical facilities, and professional groups.
Research
- Encourages faculty research/ publications and creative scholarship/ practice.
- Encourages student research/ publications and creative scholarship/ practice.
Enrollment, Recruitment and Professional Affiliations
- Works with the CHHS Enrollment Coordinator and Enrollment Services to develop an annual marketing plan.
- Monitors enrollment, progression, and performance of PHNW students and communicates pertinent information to the Dean of CHHS.
- Serves as liaison or appoints a liaison to professional organizations, state agencies, and other educational entities.
- Guides media platforms for school updates.
Supervisory responsibilities
- Provide guidance to faculty, staff, and student workers (as applicable) in the conducting of required functions and responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Seventh-Day Adventist in good standing
- Visionary academic leader with 2-3 year experience as program director or higher
- Doctorate degree in one of the areas taught within the department
- Faculty rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor
- Understanding of the disciplines that are in the Department of Public Health, Nutrition and Wellness
- Experience working in a complex and diverse organization
- Demonstrated servant leadership, characterized with positive attitude, integrity, collegiality, and transparency
- Conflict management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with instructional technology
Preferred Qualifications:
- US based licensure or certification in one or more of the areas in the Department of Public Health, Nutrition and Wellness
